On Thursday night staff member Saradha Koirala launched her first book of poetry, 'Wit of the Staircase'. 

The talented English teacher got her Masters in Creative Writing before starting at East last year.  The title of the book comes from one of the poems, part of which muses on that moment when you leave an event and are on the staircase, and suddenly think of all the pithy, humorous things you should have said, the 'wit of the staircase'.

The official launch was held at Unity Books on Willis Street, which is now selling copies for $20.  After being introduced in glowing terms by her publishers, Steele Roberts, Miss Koirala read a selection of her poems aloud and then signed copies.
