It is the first time in several years we have fielded a rugby team, and they have pulled together well, under a new coach, with great play from seniors including Naima, Flora, Sinead and Reijeli. The game on Thursday was closely fought and the toughest match either side had faced all season. After being down at half-time, WEGC fought back to be up a try with less than ten minutes to go. Upper Hutt equalled the game again, but a break-away try by Reijeli put East up by 7 with less then five minutes to go. Upper Hutt didn't give up and scored two converted tries in the dying minutes to secure an upset victory over East. They go on to face St Mary's in the final. Many of the girls will be trialling for the Wellington Under-18 squad. Good luck to them.

After finishing top seed in their division of the ten-a-side girls' rugby league, WEGC lost a closely fought semi-final to Upper Hutt College 33-40.
