Good Showing in Beespelling

Year 9 student, Gisela Kristono, made the top 10 in the regional Spelling Bee.

There were 65 contestants from as far away as Hastings and Palmerston North, and Gisela first managed to make it into the top 20, after the initial written and oral round (where she correctly spelt 'obsequious').  She surived the first of the finals rounds by spelling 'cauliflower' but was then stumped by 'synergy' (which she made of good fist of, spelling it 'synegy', having never heard the word before).  She ended up coming 9th equal.

WEGC has a proud tradition in the Wellington Spelling Bee, which we have won twice in the last five years, with Vanessa Bramwell (now in Year 13) and Rowena Woodhams (now in Year 11).
