The Bald and the Beautiful

Event Name The Bald and the Beautiful
Start Date 23rd Sep 2010
End Date
Duration N/A
Description

A group of four brave Year 11 students, calling themselves the 'Nearly Hairless Chicks' shaved their heads to raise money for the Leukaemia Blood Foundation, aiming to reach $4,000.

Evee, Maya, Jessie and Ellie all know people who have had cancer and so committed themselves to this cause.  The official month for head-shaving was in winter, but they decided to put it off until warmer times.

Before today's event they had already raised $3,000 from donations and running a food stall at the MADE festival.  Today students lined up to cut off a piece of hair for $5 and paint on their shaved heads for $1, or just watch for a gold coin donation.

There was mass empathy and awe from the huge crowd of students (and the girls' mums).

It was yet another positive example of how teenagers can make a difference.
