We had an audience of 280+ to celebrate the achievement of our fantastic girls. Congratulations to all our prize winners on the night, and a big thanks to all parents/caregivers, coaches and students that attended the awards night. WEGC Sportswoman of the YearThe winning student received either $750 towards international travel for her sport or a Scholarship to The New Zealand Institute of Sport valued at $4850, both prizes donated by The New Zealand Institute of Sport. The WEGC Sportswoman of the year Samantha Lee represented her school, province and country in two sports. She has broken numerous national records and was the first woman in NZ to swim under 1minute for 100m butterfly with a time of 59.78sec. In 2009 she broke 9 NZ age group records and 1 NZ open record and was selected for the NZ U19 Swim Team for the Junior Pan Pacific Champs in Guam. In her other field Surf Life Saving she represented NZ in the NZ Open Team at the World Games in Taiwan this year. Last week we held the newly revamped WEGC Sports Awards. This year we had 11 new trophies’s that we presented. The awards night went without a hitch and was a fantastic celebration of WEGC sports.
