Description

Matauaina Fagalilo of Year 9 has won the Samoan language week competition held by 783AM.  Her prize was $1,000 and a Samoan history book.

The competition was held over a few weeks, and entrants were given a Samoan text, which they had a few weeks to study.

They then answered a series of questions about the text and from the 80 entrants, 8 finalists were chosen for the final phase.

This stage involved students giving a one minute impromptu speech on the topic of 'Futures.  Matauaina spoke about how students need to go to classes and be into their school weok and that families need structure and support for their children in place at home.sa-award
