Cultural Groups

Wellington East is a school which values diversity.  We have two Cultural Prefects, Addis Mekonnen and Olivia Porter.

Students are able to choose from a range of cultural groups to join.  The cultural activities are a lot of fun and foster a sense of belonging.  There are also many outstanding achievements to be celebrated.  Several times a year the school has multi-cultural welcomes and cultural concerts to showcase our diversity.

We have strong kapa haka and Polynesian groups, and also support these groups with things like waka ama and homework clubs.

Since the school has a large group of new migrant students from Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands, we also have groups involving these girls.  There is a New Settlers Club which meets at lunch-time, an African dance group and an Indian Group.  Many of our girls go to the new migrants homework club in Newtown, which is supported by our Komputer Kooks club, who peer tutor there in computer skills.
